The AEG Airsoft weapons, otherwise known as automatic electric guns, are considered by most tournament veterans to be the creme de la creme. AEG assault rifles and automatic shotguns blast away the lower caliber gas gun and spring powered gun classes. If you're serious about competing in paintball tournaments or Airsoft skirmishes, you need to holster up an AEG as soon as possible.
That said, don't rely on the automatic firing blitz itself to win the day. You need more advantages then superior firepower to survive in advanced tournament stages. After all, you're not going to be the only one slinging an automatic electric gun. Unless you familiarize yourself with the tournament terrain, there's a good chance that you will get sniped by a savvy spring or gas equipped opponent.
Formulating an Aggressive Battle Plan with Your AEG Assault Weapon
What I like to do is to mentally map out a paintball arena before getting out there. Even if you've played in an arena before, it's a good idea to walk the course and scout for potential hiding places and sniping areas. Discuss tactical strategy with your teammates, and coordinate signals so that the fog of war does not interfere with your game plan.
A key way to coordinate in the midst of battle confusion is to build redundant communication lines. This strategy is similar to what U.S. military personnel employ when engaged in overseas missions. While relying on commanding officers is critical, if your general gets cut down, you don't want the team operating as a headless spider. Keep lines of communication open--at all costs!
