Airsoft refers specifically to the BB firing replica guns that the games revolve around. The games, then, tend to be military excercises. Some are variations on "Capture the Flag", with others being more wildly imaginative.

Many Airsoft enthusiasts aren't so much into the games. They either like straight target shooting, or are just into collecting beautiful, legal replicas of their favorite firearms. Still others, largely in law enforcement or the military, use them for training purposes.
With Airsoft, you can make your own rules, as long as you abide by the rules of safety. Never aim an Airsoft gun at any person or thing that you do not intend to shoot. Never shoot anything or anyone who's not protected or prepared.
